  • Infant changing table checklist

When preparing for the arrival of your baby, it is very important to have all of the items you need already at home. This way, when you come home with your baby, you won't need to make any unnecessary trips to the store. While a changing table, per say, isn't a necessity, you will undoubtedly have a changing pad for your baby to lay on.

You will want to purchase a changing pad that is soft and long enough for your baby to lay on. The pad should also have sides that angle upward. Along with your changing pad or table, you will need various items to keep your baby comfortable and clean. One advantage a changing table has is that you can keep all of the things you need in or on it and everything is nearby. You shouldn't leave your baby for any reason, so you need to keep everything right where you can reach it.

CHANGING TABLE CHECKLIST:

DIAPERS: Both disposables and cloth fit in a diaper stacker. Hang it near the changing table or where you are changing your baby.

WIPES: Wipes are good for cleaning both your baby's bottom and your hands afterwards. The best wipes are unscented and soft with no alcohol.

DIAPER RASH OINTMENT: There are 4 main ointment that moms use; Balmex, A&D, Gerber and Desitin. Some women also use Vasoline. You can buy these ointments in either cream or lotion. The original Desitin is very difficult to clean, but the new cream is not. The lotions disappear while you can see the cream on your baby when changing.

CORNSTARCH: Keep this to sprinkly on your baby after cleaning. It will keep irritation to a minimum.

VASOLINE: Besides helping with diaper rash, you will need this when taking your baby's temperature.

COTTON BALLS: These are useful in applying ointment or lotion and for cleaning your baby's eyes.

NAIL CLIPPERS: Buy the baby ones, normal clippers are too big for your baby's nails.

BRUSH/COMB: Keep nearby for a quick grooming.

NASAL ASPIRATOR: This is needed to clear your baby's nose when congested.

THERMOMETER: You will need an oral and an anal thermometer.

BABY LOTIONS: To keep your baby's skin moist. Johnson & Johnson and Baby Magic have the best assortment of lotions and oils.
